Chapter 1 Ground Work for a Grand Opening

The sunset was shining its orange and golden light rays through the tower's windows, as the group of adventures were discussing the progress of the dungeon in a room that had been created by the troll and kobold under Grikius direction. The room was located mid-level in the tower as part of the keep that guards the dungeon entrance with the large courtyard surrounding. The room was richly furnished with stone sculpting on the walls and the ceiling adding add a serious tone to the room as if they were in some great council room of the kingdom discussing affairs of state.

"We now have thirty levels of the dungeon," said Hidden-Caverns from the air as he was just giving an update of the progress of the dungeon, "Shoavneon is on the level just above the control level of the dungeon and seems to be happy there. How is she doing Symania?"

Symania who was in her healers robes in one of the soft leather chairs set around the table with a hot drink in front of her, who with her looks did not look out of place in the surrounding as the other in the adventures team did with their faces tanned by working in the fields all their lives.

"The best way to describe her situations is do not disturbed," said the pretty young woman, "she loves it when I visit but for anybody else, it best not to even venture into her level."

  "Good idea," muttered Ceras.

Rhef smiled, who sat beside the elegant young woman was in stark contracts, as she was still dressed in tough work clothes, she used for the construction of the levels that she was working on. Even though the creature was doing the hard work, she often found herself scrambling over rock and walls to gain access to the area she needed to see with her trusted assistant, the head kobold Snick.

"What is she doing in her level," said Rhef curiously, "we can sometimes feel the tremors from the upper levels where we are working. It really makes all of the other creature nervous as the slightest mention of the dragon send everybody into a panic. Even the rock worm that is as thick as my dear brother will not tunnel near her level, even if we command them, so the rock tolls have been caving out the twenty-eighth level, and it is taking forever."

"That would be the very small volcano that is creating the tremors," said Symania as she leaned over to talked directory to Rhef who replied, "I'd love to see it!"

"I'll ask Shoavneon the next time I see her if it's ok for you to have a look," said the happy Symania with a grin," as it best not to surprise, her as her reaction can be unpredictable, in her present conditions."

Rhef nodded gratefully as she looked at her friend, but across the room slouching in his chair, Rinaldo muttered, "Women!" as if that explained everything. This produced an icy stare from his sister, who grunted with contempt.

"Rhef will you tell everybody the progress of the level construction work that is ongoing," instructed Hidden-Caverns.

"Most people know, except for my stupid brother who is only interested in the development of his army and the tactics he's dreamed up," Rhef said with a snared comment to her brother, "but I'll give you an update if you insist.

"The top level is fully completed with its catacombs of rooms and corridors that are a maze for the lower level of adventure, of the apprentices so they can gain some experiences without too much danger. We have made the labyrinth, how do I say it, more forgiving for the lower levels and filled it with more monster for the adventures to battle with."

  "What?"

"Don't worry Ceras it still can be changed back to being harder with a few quick modifications, so if where are invaded again, then it will be a real barrier to their progression."

  "That fine, thanks."

"The next two levels has just been finished and are for the latter level in the apprentice's level, that I think they'll enjoy. The forest level that was the first real level that we completed is still the same and caters to mostly the journeymen levels. We have added three more journeymen levels below it that increase in difficulty as they get deeper. At the moment we are working on the first of the standard levels starting from eight. The rock worms have been making the large caverns for each level all the way up the twenty-seven, as I said before they will not work just above the dragon level.

"On a more personal note, I've reached journeymen for my construction class with all the experience that I've been doing."

Everybody cheered and chapped but then not to be outdone by his sister, Rinaldo said in a loud tone, "I've just also got my journeymen level in the tactician class for all this work with the army I'm developing."

"So, what," huffed his sister as seemed looked less than impressed with the announcement of his advancement.

"Well I've been having to test all the level with the army and keep the monster population down, so the dungeon doesn't get too full," replied her bother as he seemed to puff out his chest in importance.

  "Humph," said Rhef.

"That brings me to the important decision we have to make," said Hidden-Caverns in a loud voice to disrupted the argument between the siblings, "we need to decide if we are going to open up the dungeon to adventures.

"We've been really lucky not to be visited by the human's adventure, but now for the experience, it will give us, we need to start opening our door to allow them to fight the monster, as Rinaldo and his crowd can only do so much. If we don't, the dungeon could get overfull, or I'd have to shut down some of the portals.

"The only problem is that it will make us a target to the higher up nobles in the land."

"But we're going to be a target sooner or later," said Grikius

Everybody looked around the room at each other thinking about what to do; Ceras notice that under the table, Apollo was being fed by his constant companion from his plate of food.

"Maybe it best if we open up n
ow and gain the experience as quickly as we can, as we're soon to be discovered sooner or later by somebody," said Ceras with a sigh.

"Well, I really want to start putting the dungeon level I've created to a test," said Rhef with a smile, "so my vote is to open up."

"I'm all set up for trading when people get here," said Grikius, "so I'm very keen for the dungeon to open to allow us to make money."

"Well is there any opposition for us to get adventures coming through," said Ceras in a questioning tone of voice as he stood up.

Everybody nodded their head as they were keen to open up and stop being so isolated here in the middle of nowhere.

"Well then how do we do it," said Hidden-Caverns in a decisive voice, "do we just tell somebody in town and hope they come."

Putting his head up, Grikius said with a happy smile, "Leave that to me; I've got a great idea. Ceras do you want to make a trip to the town with me?"

Ceras nodded wondering what he had gotten himself into as the young trader seems to be smiling way too much for such a task.

  --

Ceras was walking next to the playful dog Apollo every now and then throwing a stick for him to go fetch and he would race off with a happily barking and pick up the stick and bring it back for another round of the game.

"I would have thought that he would be too intelligent to play normal dog games," said Ceras to Grikius in a questioning voice as the two watched the dog play happily.

"He's still a puppy and I he just enjoys the simple games" replied the smiling Grikius who was looking at his dog who seemed to have grown a lot more in the last few weeks and now was up to the waist.

As the two boys still looking very young in their smart clothing with no armor, as it had been destroyed in the fire from the dragon, they now approached the city with just some simple weapons in hand looking like they were on a low apprentice level, just starting out.

"So, what is your plan for getting people to start coming to the dungeon?" said Ceras in a questioning tone of voices as he picked up another stick for the dog to fetch when he threw it.

"Well it is not going to be a problem getting people to come to the dungeon once's is known about, so for that, we could just set a rumor going of a dungeon and people would eventually investigate. But I want to get the inexperienced adventures to come first by encouraging them with apprentices' quests that will reward them with better weapons than they normally could afford.

"In the dungeon, we've been busy producing equipment from all the monster's that you and that army of Rinaldo have been killing. The shops now full of equipment to sell and I think the best advertisement will be to offer some of the equipment to the lower level adventures for fulfilling quest in the dungeon.

"Hopefully, they will go out and see the quality of the equipment and word will spread helping me with trading as I need to build up my experiences level in the trading class. It will also be nice to give the lower class of adventures a helping hand to gain some experiences and decent equipment. As we got a lucky break, it would be nice to past that lucky one."

Ceras smiled, thinking of his kindness, at his friend as they both walked into the town through the large open gates and started down the busy street with people about their business. Every now and then seeing groups of adventures entering and exiting the city on the way to and from quests for the guild. Some of the groups were smiling and enjoying themselves, making Ceras think about how it was a good idea to give people a sense of purpose when they were young.

They bought some food to eat on the way to the guild building in the center of the city as they had left the dungeon early in the morning and were now hungry, especially Apollo who was given a treat of large raw pieces of meat from a butcher's shop.

As Grikius was feeding the meat to the eager dog. Ceras noticed how big he was getting in such a short amount of time and how much he was eating for a dog, it was if he was an empty hole that any food could be thrown down into a bottomless pit when it came to feeding. He couldn't help wondering if he was just a dog or a mixture of something else.

Passing through the market square the two took a few minutes to browse the weapons to replace the ones they had loss but found most of the equipment at too low a level for them now, as money was not an issue and they wanted to be able to fight above their experiences level with better weapons.

"I guess we need to go to some of the craftspersons in the workshop area of the town to get something better," said Ceras as the two entered the guild building, "we can do it after we finish here."

Leading the way Grikius walked past all the quest on the shelves and went straight to talking to one of the guild administrators behind the counter. Ceras smiled at the woman as he noticed that it was the woman that they had dealt with when they had been taking out quests.

"Hello," said the administrators with a pleasant smile back to the two adventures, "how can I help you today? Do you have a quest that you are taking out?"

"No, we want to submit several quests for members of the guild to do, how do we do that?" said Grikius with the excitement in his voice.

The guild administrator looked surprised but pulled out a large book that seemed to be well used and opened it to a page with at the table on it to place information for the quest.

"As this is a new quest, we can just enter the information into the quest book, "said the administrators, "as people complete the quest the books magical properties will update the quest giving it the correct level and experience point from the guild. If you give experience points or any other reward, it will also update that information as well."

Grikius lent forward and started to outline the quest with the lady by discussing what he wanted, the level required, and the reward that would be given. One thing that Ceras noticed that he left out was that the quest was in a dungeon, but he left Grikius to continue without interrupting as he knew what he was doing.

By the time they had finish in the city after buying some more equipment and supplies for the dungeon, it was late at night when they enter to castles guarding the dungeon with its orc guards at the entrances saluting them as they entered, they were tired from a full day.

  Chapter 2 An Unusual Quest

Elis was browsing through the level 3 apprentice level quest in the guild. The early morning sun was shining through the side window of the large guild building in the center of the market as it was still early in the morning. The other three in his adventure group were doing the same, as they were trying to find a quest for them to do today. He placed his heavy wooden stick with a thick metal band on the end, beside the quest information shelves as he spied an interesting quest up high in front of him. On the shelve that indicating that it was a new quest to the guild. As the warrior bought the thin wooden slate with the quest pinned to it, he started to read the information:

  Quest Title

  Discovery of a Life Time

  Description

In the foot hill mountain of the town make the discovery of a lift time (see attached map).

  Level

  3 - 7

  XP per team member

  4 and upwards

  Reward

1 gold to be spent at the location for equipment for adventurers

As he read through the quest again, he was still as confused as to when he had just glanced at it on the top shelf. It had the reward of gold that had immediately brought it to his notices.

"Hey Caeni," he said to the girl wizard beside him, "have a look at this and tell me what you think of the quest?"

Passing the wooden tablet over to the dark heard shorter girl that was still dressed in a homemade outfit that she started adventuring a few weeks ago in, she looked at the quest and then her eyes went wide with surprise.

"The reward seems to be very high, and the quest is very vague," Caeni said in a tone of voice with surprise and excitement intermingled, "do you think it's real?"

"It hard to tell as it a new quest, but still the guild is placing it on the shelv
es so it must at least be OK," said the warrior Elis with a shrug of his shoulders.

"Have you two found anything," Frizua a male the healer shown by his homemade robes for the group with Chaikaph in her cloths padded with leather giving her some protection.

"It's a bit of an interesting quest," said Elis as he passed the tablet over.

The four young adventures all crowded around Frizua as he read the quest out loud with a questioning tone of voices and then at the end in some excitement.

"We might as well do it as even if it doesn't give us one gold of equipment the experiences is good for a level 3 quest and if we do get the money that will really help us out," said Chaikaph with her long knife in her hand that she was using to clean her fingernails.

All of the four young adventures that had just started a few weeks ago took the quest board as if it was a prized procession to the counter where the kind woman administrator was waiting to serve them.

"We'd like to take this quest out please," said Elis as the spokesman of the group.

As the administrator looked at the quest sheet, she smiled and said, "Brand new as the request just came in yesterday. You will be the first to do it, so there's a guild reward when you come back and report on how the quest went, the reward is depended on the real level of the quest. So, if it's a higher level than the quest sheet, then you get more money."

As the team left the guild building for the gate in the town walls on the north side of the city, they were excited about the quest as it really seemed that no matter what happened they would receive some experience and much-needed money to help them.

With their homemade clothes and made do weapons the team was looked down up by some of the upper class, rich adventures as they passed them with looks of derision and some laughter.
